After a long period of consultation with the Trust as well as its partners at Yaq̓it ʔa·knuqⱡi‘it First Nation and the Ktunaxa National Council, the provincial government has recognized the desirability of establishing a connectivity corridor on the West Slope. To that end, as an initial step, the Ministry of Water, Land and Sustainable Resources is moving to designate the Crown lands within the Corridor under a Notation of Interest. That designation preserves existing rights on the Crown lands in the Corridor but requires that future applications for dispositions, licenses, permits or tenures address wildlife connectivity. This is a great first step to obtaining permanent protection for this critical connectivity corridor!
